Day 1: Darwin → Kakadu (Jabiru area)

Leave Darwin and head into Kakadu. See the landscape shifting to wetlands and floodplains. Stop at the Bowali Visitor Centre for maps and updates before heading to your campsite. Overnight in the Jabiru area and settle into your first base.

Day 2: Ubirr — Rock Art & Sunset

Drive north to Ubirr, one of Kakadu’s most iconic sites. Spend the day exploring ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries before climbing to the lookout for sunset over the floodplains. Return to your campsite near Jabiru.

Day 3: Jabiru → Cooinda

Pack up and begin moving deeper into the park. Explore the Nourlangie rock art site and surrounding walks. Learn more about Indigenous culture and history while taking in views of the Arnhem Land escarpment. Continue south to Cooinda, a more central base with better facilities. This will be your campsite for the next 2-3 nights.

Day 4: Yellow Water

Wake up early for a Yellow Water Billabong cruise. Spot crocodiles and birdlife on one of the best wildlife experiences in Kakadu. Spend the rest of the day exploring nearby walks or relaxing during the hottest part of the day.

Day 5: Jim Jim Falls / Twin Falls

If accessible (seasonal), visit Kakadu’s most dramatic waterfalls. These require extra driving and sometimes 4WD access, but the scenery is unforgettable.

Day 6: Cooinda → Darwin

Pack up and begin the drive back to Darwin. You can retrace your route or take a slightly different return via Kakadu Highway. Finish this tropical road trip by returning your campervan and reflecting on this memorable trip.
